FAQs
PRODUCT FAQS
How do I use a salve?
Our salves are power packed with healing herbs. The organic herbs, oils, and beeswax are ideal for absorbing into your skin. As the herbs are working their magic, it may take a minute or two to soak in. Just take a bit of whichever salve you choose and rub it gently into your skin. Use as much as you think you might need. If you need more, use more. If you use a bit too much you can remove it with warm water and a washcloth.
Do you have any vegan products?
Yes, we do! Our castile soaps, bath salts, Sitz Bath, massage oils and Face Wash are vegan. Also, our bug spray, gel deodorants, lotions, shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste should fit the bill. We always recommend checking the labels and we’re guessing if you’re asking this question you know the drill.
Are all of your products all-natural?
All of our products are plant-based and packed with organic herbs, carrier oils, beeswax, and essential oils. But, in order to offer some alternatives for the bathroom that aren’t packed with harsh or harmful chemicals, we have utilized some alternative ingredients. For instance, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (shampoo) is a salt derived from a fatty acid in coconut. If you have any questions about something you find on our labels, feel free to reach out.
I noticed that not all of your ingredients are organic - why is that?
We source all our ingredients ethically and with you in mind. We feel confident in our processes and the products we are sourcing. We are weighing the benefits of the ingredient, the cost of the options, and how that affects our ability to make a product that is effective and affordable. With each ingredient, we have made an intentional choice that we think results in the best product possible.
What is the shelf life of your products?
In most cases, the shelf life is two years or more. We’re guessing you’ll use them before you ever have to worry about them going bad. Keep out of direct sunlight for a longer shelf life.
How do I use Green Goo’s magnesium-based natural deodorant?
The basic answer is to apply one to two swipes to your armpits.
It may be necessary to warm the deodorant by holding it against your armpits for a few seconds.
What makes Green Goo products so effective?
Our defining characteristic is our lipid infusion process. Rather than using pre-made extracts, we infuse fresh and dried herbs in organic oils over low heat for an extended amount of time to increase the medicinal value of our products. This enhanced process maximizes the potency of our salves, taking the healing properties of the plants to the next level.
What makes your products better than petroleum-based products? They've always worked just fine.
First of all, we’re firm believers in the ‘find what works’ axiom. If you love it and you’re happy, we’re happy. Petroleum, while great as a barrier, may be locking your skin issues in place rather than providing any benefit. It also can block the pores. Our herbal, power-packed salves are easily absorbed and help nourish healthier skin.
Is there any science behind your claims that plant-based skincare is better?
If you check out our Ingredients page, you’ll see that the plants we use in Green Goo have been used by herbalists for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. This mountain of empirical evidence is not only compelling, but its roots span the globe and show that these herbal remedies are the precursors to many modern medicines. In addition, the FDA recognizes many of our ingredients for their remedial benefits - from pain relief to skin protection and astringents, Green Goo is packed with powerful plants that are proven.
I have sensitive skin; can I use Green Goo?
Even though we are a natural-based company, it is always recommended that people with sensitive skin should test a tiny amount before applying to your whole body.
What do I do if I have a reaction?
You can wash Green Goo off with warm water and a washcloth.
How do I use your Face Wash?
We recommend rinsing your face with warm water prior to applying our Face Wash. A little goes a long way with our cleanser, so you will only need to use a small amount. 1-3 pumps. Massage into face for approximately 30 seconds. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and then use a small washcloth to dry face and remove any excess oil still
Are your products safe for kids?
The short answer is yes. As we’ve said before, everyone has different skin, but it shouldn’t be a problem for anyone of any age. If you’re worried, it’s always a good idea to test our salves on a small area of your kid’s skin before applying it to their whole body. For babies, please always start off using our specially formulated baby line for all your needs from birth to 1 year of age.
My dog ate some of your product. What should I do?
Chances are you shouldn’t have to worry at all. Our products are made from plants, so there shouldn’t be any issues unless they are allergic to one of the ingredients. If they are allergic, then definitely call your vet. Otherwise, just keep an eye on them. Dogs eat weird things all the time.
The packaging is different - did you change the formula?
We didn’t change any formulas in conjunction with the most recent packaging refresh/redesign. New look, same formula, and as effective as ever!
I am allergic to nuts. Are your products safe for me to use?
Please read all the ingredients before using if you are allergic to any type of nuts.
Do you test on animals?
No. Never. We are cruelty-free in accordance with the Leaping Bunny Program.
Can I use First Aid on a bad cut or deep wound?
In an emergency, you should go directly to a doctor or hospital for serious injuries. Our salves are not to be used on deep wounds. They are meant for minor cuts and scrapes.
What is Fair Trade?
Fair Trade is a global movement designed to help farmers, laborers, and producers in developing countries achieve more equitable trading conditions. By simply paying fair prices for the goods that people produce, we aim to promote equity, sustainability, self-reliance, and growth in countries and communities, and on farms around the world.
What do you mean when you say “sustainably sourced?”
Sustainable sourcing touches every part of the process of growing and producing our herbal ingredients. We want our ingredients to come from people and organizations that are using smart, environmentally conscious farming practices; that are not using pesticides or other harmful chemicals; and that are caring for the soil - conserving and managing resources and not polluting. In addition, we look for partners and producers that actively care for their workers and communities by providing good working conditions, fair wages, and empowerment opportunities.
How do you know if an ingredient is sustainably sourced?
We receive profiles of the companies we purchase from, and we use them to begin to educate ourselves on those organizations and their business practices. Many times this will include their certifications, company history, and more. Then we do our own research to ensure that we’re getting our ingredients from like-minded organizations that are using sustainable sourcing best practices.
What does “food for your skin” mean?
Each product is formulated to meet your skin’s particular needs AND to promote its health and wellness. Our products don’t just mask your symptoms, Green Goo does more to help you. What that means, for instance, is that our lip balm doesn’t just protect your lips; it also nourishes and helps repair. Our deodorant not only helps fight odor, it also calms, evens, and helps fight skin irritation. Our castile soap is a great multi-purpose cleanser, and with sunflower, aloe, and shea butter, it rejuvenates your skin, too. Our ingredients are naturally rich in vitamins and minerals, and our infusion process helps your body absorb them quickly and easily. We’re on a mission to show the world how effective, and powerful, all-natural skin care can be. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and it should matter what you put on and in it. Why just cover it when you can do more?
Why do I have to shake my bug spray?
Our Bugs Be Gone includes yarrow and sage infused in witch hazel and then combined with a potent blend of essential oils. Natural settling of these ingredients occurs when the product has been sitting. Nothing is wrong with the product – it just needs to be given a good shake before application for optimum results.
What is Prop 65?
In 1986, California voters approved a law known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, better known as Proposition 65. Proposition 65 is a California law that requires businesses to provide warning labels on products that contain any of over 800 chemicals, even when these chemicals are found in amounts that are far below the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and internationally recognized standards for dietary supplements (ANSI 173). Such warnings are commonly seen in California on consumer products in restaurants, amusement parks, and many other locations.
Do any of your products contain hemp or CBD?
Green Goo products are free from cannabidiol (CBD), but you can find all-natural body care products with CBD on the website of our sister company, Good Goo. Find The Good on GoodGoo.com.
